We held “International Disaster Reduction Symposium”. (03/01/30)
With an agenda examining the state of disasters and disaster reduction activities in Asia, the ‘Asian Conference on Disaster Reduction 2003’, involving participants from Asia as well as from other parts of the world, was held to prepare for the forthcoming ten-year review of the ‘Yokohama Strategy for a Safer World and Plan of Action’, as unanimously adopted by the participants of the 1994 World Conference on Natural Disaster Reduction in Yokohama. Furthermore, an ?eInternational Disaster Reduction Symposium?f, was held by the Disaster Reduction Alliance (DRA) as one part of the Conference to examine requirements for “the creation of a society capable of coexisting with disasters”, future prospects, and obstacles yet to overcome for achieving such a society; and, in this context, to discuss the potential of the Alliance. Frank and constructive discussion was conducted by the participants throughout the symposium.
