International Recovery Platform (IRP) Established in 2005 as a result of the UN World Conference on Disaster Reduction, held in Kobe in Jan. 2005.
IRP aims to serve as a platform for collaboration among UN agencies and other organizations for post-disaster reconstruction.
Asian Disaster Reduction Center (ADRC) Established in 1998 to enhance multinational cooperation for disaster management in Asia, where major disasters frequently occur.
The Center’s ongoing programs include collecting and sharing disaster-related information, developing human resources and community-based disaster risk management initiatives.
Office for the Cooperation of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) Kobe Opened in 2000 to coordinate aid assistant activities for effective humanitarian assistance in cooperation with governmental agencies and international organizations. OCHA Kobe runs the Web site “Relief Web” which provides information regarding humanitarian aid.
Hyogo Office of Disaster Prevention Planning, United Nations Centre for Regional Development (UNCRD)

Opened in 1999 as a regional office of UNCRD (based in Nagoya), which was established in 1971. The Office provides regional development managers in developing countries with research results, advice, information and training to enhance their ability to design and implement plans.

Earthquake Disaster Mitigation Research Center (EDM), National Research Institute for Earth Science and Disaster Prevention Established in Jan. 1998 to conduct leading research for reducing earthquake damage mainly in urban areas. Interdisciplinary practical research programs are under way at the Center to promote disaster-preparedness of medial systems, use of IT for measures against earthquake and risk management, and introduction of scientific technologies for global disaster risk mitigation.
Hyogo Earthquake Memorial 21st Century Research Institute One of the think tank’s main roles is to conduct research and study to ensure the safety, security and cooperation of communities, essential factors in realizing a more mature society in the 21st century. To achieve these goals, identified on the basis of lessens learned from the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake, the Institute also provides policy suggestions to deal with a wide range of challenges, based on the principle of human care to ensure human dignity and enhance quality of life.
